WEG presents three projects related to electric traction and renewable energy at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development: the Solar Boat Amazônia, the H2+2 Bus (hydrogen-electric hybrid) and the Itaipu Bus (ethanol-electric hybrid).

The solar boat was designed by the Photovoltaic group of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and is on display at Píer Mauá, pavilion 4, at the university stand. Besides institutional and technical support, WEG provided two sets for traction, consisting of a water-cooled motor and a CFW11 inverter. The control stick and the DC/DC voltage inverter are also part of the project.

Conceived by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ-COPPE), the H2+2 is being shown on a closed circuit at the Parque dos Atletas, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. The Itaipu Bus is a project of the Usina Itaipu Binacional which is on display at the FINEP stand at Píer Mauá.

The WEG products used in both models of buses are electric traction motor, traction inverters and auxiliary inverters, as well as the generator, in the case of the Itaipu bus.

Besides not emitting carbon dioxide, the use of the electric motor in place of the internal combustion motor prevents the emission of nitrogen oxide and particulate matter. The operation of the electrical system does not produce noise, which helps in reducing noise pollution.

The conference which points out the future paths of development began on June 13 and continues until June 22. More than 50,000 people are expected, among which, heads of state, businessmen and activists at the event which should help to define the sustainable development agenda for the coming decades.
