WEG and Eletrobras were present at the Protection, Automation and Control World Conference 2024, held from June 17 to 21 in Athens, Greece, through the presentation by Mr. Mateus Alexandrino, project engineer for protection, automation, and control systems in the Transmission Directorate of the Vice Presidency of Engineering and Expansion at Eletrobras.

On June 19, Alexandrino presented the paper titled “Digital Substation PAC Network Monitoring System,” which describes the ongoing modernization of the Itajaí substation, designed by Eletrobras CGT Eletrosul, with the implementation of a digital substation monitoring solution developed and executed by WEG. The project includes the recapacitation and digitalization of the protection, control, and supervision systems of the Itajaí Substation (600 MVA) and two-line entries of the Blumenau Substation (1,944 MVA), using the process bus in the Protection, Control, and Supervision Systems (SPCS).

The work presents the scope of the modernization of the Itajaí substation, including the characteristics of the communication networks in the station and process buses, involving the installation of Merging Units in the substation yard. Additionally, it describes the challenges of real-time monitoring of the messages on the network and the integrity of the various devices that make up the SPCS. This monitoring is one of the new requirements in the updated submodule 2.11 of the Brazilian National Grid Operator (ONS) network procedures, effective as of June 2024.

The event brought together SPCS specialists from dozens of countries, with representation from all continents, serving as a platform for exchanging experiences and identifying best global practices in the development of solutions that seek technological innovation and operational safety for the systems provided by WEG.
