WEG officially celebrated the inauguration of its new plant in Rugao, China on April 28, 2016. The plant is located in an area of technological and industrial development (ZTDE), 65km away from Nantong, where WEG established its first plant in China, and 180km from Shanghai.
Started in January 2015, the factory currently operates 35,000 square meters of manufacturing space and employs 50 employees. Based on the expandable design of this Rugao plant, by the year 2020, WEG expects to increase the manufacturing area to 90,000 square meters and employment to over 3,000.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the new Chinese factory and those in attendance were; President and CEO of WEG, Harry Schmelzer Jr., Managing Director of WEG in China, Siegfried Kreutzfeld, Managing Director Motors Division, Luis Alberto Tiefensee, Consul of Brazil in China, Ana Perez, Mayor of Rugao, Chen Xiao Dong, Deputy mayor, Mao Hong Yu, Municipal secretary of Rugao, Si Zhu Jian and the Secretary of Technological and Economic Development of the municipality, Hao Xiao Dong.
In the opening speech, the President and CEO of WEG emphasized the importance of the Chinese factory for the company: "Today we are starting a new business cycle in China. With investments of more than $ 120 million, Rugao is now the largest production plant of WEG in China. We expect to achieve an annual production of one million industrial motors in this new state of the art ndustrial complex, "said Mr. Schmelzer.
