Supported by the Brazilian Embassy in Algiers, the mission was led by Mr. Schmelzer, who was accompanied by WEG’s Global Oil & Gas Manager, Elder Stringari; the Managing Director of WEG France, Christian Beaugrand and the Sales Manager for Algeria, Azzedine Bouredoucene.
The WEG team and Brazilian diplomats established key contacts with top Algerian officials, including the Ministry of Industry and Mines and the Ministry of Water and Environment.
Two of the most important meetings were held with the top management of Sonelgaz, Algeria’s electricity and gas company and Sonatrach, the Oil & Gas giant.
The mission program included a “WEG Morning and Luncheon” when several Algerian executives from different industry sectors had the opportunity to interact with the WEG team and learn more about the company.
The main purpose of this Mission was to better understand the current economic context of Algeria and identify the different potential opportunities for WEG to enhance its presence in the country.
Considering WEG’s plan of further developing its global business footprint and the fact that Oil & Gas, Mining, and Water are among its focus segments, business opportunities in Algeria are well in line with the company’s strategy.
WEG has been present in Algeria for 10 years through its Distributor and Agent in the country, a company called GIMELEC which is dedicated to the repair and service of electric motors and transformers, as well as sales of new motors, motor controls, and engineered electrical systems.
