WEG, in partnership with Kochendörfer Hydro, delivered two SPD model hydrogenerators, 800-frame, with specifications of 6901 kVA, 1000 rpm, 6600 V, and 50 Hz, to Eletricidade da Madeira. The equipment, manufactured at WEG's facility in India, was supplied as part of the renovation of the historic Serra de Água Hydroelectric Power Plant, located on Madeira Island, Portugal, a milestone in strengthening renewable energy generation in the region.

These hydrogenerators are driven by Pelton hydraulic turbines, optimizing energy production and enhancing the plant's efficiency. Serra de Água, inaugurated in 1953 and responsible for generating 1000 GWh of renewable electricity, is now undergoing an expansion that increases its installed capacity from 5.7 MW to 11 MW. This upgrade surpasses commitments made to the European Commission and enhances water resource management and response capacity.

The project is part of Portugal's PRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan), an investment of 15.4 million euros, marking the largest investment in Madeira Island for expanding renewable energy sources. Upon project completion, the plant will be equipped to meet higher energy demand with sustainability and improved efficiency.

The partnership between WEG and Kochendörfer Hydro stands out for delivering robust and reliable solutions to the energy generation sector. WEG's involvement reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
