The WEG Transmission & Distribution - WTD unit in Huehuetoca, Mexico, celebrates the conclusion of a challenging project. After about 18 months of operation, the plant delivered the first single-phase transformers of 125 MVA, 400 kV. The four transformers were supplied to the Mexican state-owned Comisión Federal de Electricidad - CFE and constitute a new substation in the city of Los Mochis, in the state of Sinaloa in northwestern Mexico.
After a year of manufacture, the transformers were tested in June 2011 at the WTD laboratory in Mexico, simulating operating conditions. The overall success in developing the project was made possible due to the synergy with the team in Blumenau (SC), WTD headquarters. The Mexican unit is now certified as a leading provider of solutions for large transformers, up to 550kV, expanding the North American market. The new substation should be operational in September and will improve the distribution of electricity in the state of Sinaloa.
