WEG Middle East’s participation at ADIPEC 2010 in Abu Dhabi is designed to showcase WEG in the region; to raise its profile and demonstrate the technical competences of WEG as a Global Solutions provider to the Oil and Gas industry.
In addition, WEG is also using ADIPEC to identify new distribution channels within the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), in order to capitalise on its considerable investment in warehousing to serve the region.
WEG Middle East is part of the US$3.2Billion WEG automation and control company, which serves all key markets with transformers, generators, LV control gear, inverter drive systems, soft starters, LV, MV and HV motors, ATEX- compliant explosion proof motors, smoke extraction motors and full turnkey systems. In the Middle East WEG is an emerging force, having already supplied equipment from 1HP to 27,000HP for the region’s Oil & Gas industry, in both upstream exploration and recovery and downstream Oil & Gas refining and processing.
WEG products are employed widely in Oil and Gas applications; basically from the incoming power distribution network to the product flowing from the process. They are used for driving all types of pumps, compressors and fans to achieve production efficiencies, with or without variable speed operation. WEG’s optimised motors and drives enable the company to provide energy efficient operation in the most arduous applications and environments encountered in the Oil & Gas industry, regardless of the location: from the coldest regions and the deepest oceans of the world, to the hottest deserts in the Middle East.
As an example of the company’s global reach in Oil and Gas operations, a number of FPSO’s operating around the world depend upon WEG. The PETROBRAS P53, P54, P58 and P62 platforms are recent examples of these: the projects comprised main generation packages, motors for the gas compressor modules and various pump drives.
In the Middle East, WEG’s most recent oil & gas projects include a steam injection oil recovery project for Petroleum Development Oman, and a crude oil pumping project for Daleel Petroleum, also in Oman. In the latter project, WEG used energy saving motors and inverters to increase the output of three crude oil shipping pumps by 45% respectively: from 11,000 bpd to 16000 bpd.
Projects such as Daleel are the future, as the global demand for Oil & Gas, including refined products, increases pressure on the UAE to produce more, highlighting the importance of the region to today’s global economy. WEG’s participation at ADIPEC is a statement of the company’s part in that future; a commitment to a region that offers positive growth projects for both Oil and Gas over the next five years. In addition, the UAE is judged to be one the most stable places to do business across the region. In view of all these positive factors, WEG is planning on healthy increases in its business over the next half-decade - especially in view of its proven ability to reduce energy costs for producers and refiners.
Today, WEG Middle East sees its biggest challenge as distribution, in the highly dynamic and evolving UAE region. This means getting ‘optimised solutions’ to their point of sale in the shortest possible time frame. The region and market opportunities are vast; both in terms of new projects and for retrofit solutions that ensure aging production facilities maintain optimised production with minimum downtime. In addition, energy efficiency is set to become a greater driving force and key differentiator in the months and years ahead: with its well proven capabilities in this area, WEG is set to maximise upon this opportunity.
At ADIPEC WEG will be demonstrating, ‘live on stand’, the latest generation of its CFW-11 variable speed drive system, which is suitable both for OEM applications and for retrofitting to existing applications, providing an energy efficient solution. In addition, during the course of the event, WEG is to announce that it is the proud sponsor of the Energy Industries Council (EIC) UK lounge. “We are looking forward to the event, and invite all to come and see us on Stand No 11269, where a warm welcome is assured,” commented WEG Middle East MD, Colin Cox.
