Electric Machinery Company, part of the WEG Group has built and serviced motors and turbo generators for over 120 years. One of the earliest examples still operating is located in Putnam CT and was built in 1919. This 335KVA unit has been rewound a few times in its long life but has the original lamination stack and original rotor poles. It is presently being driven by a relatively new turbine and will undergo a complete reworking of the laminations by EM. The generator still has the original flat plate roller thrust bearing, ball bearing in a carrier for the upper radial bearing and has been converted to a static exciter but otherwise it is original in every other detail. This is a proven example of the longstanding experience EM has brought to the turbo generator industry.

Today this OEM of turbo-generators continues to lead the industry with an installed base of over 1000 units providing power in many different applications and industries. At their headquarters in Minneapolis MN, EM operates a 425,000 square foot facility fully staffed and equipped with engineers, a large VPI tank and complete testing capabilities available to solve any generation problem. Also, when factory repair is not possible EM provides onsite testing and repair. Services that are available include:

· Inspection and troubleshooting
· Failure analysis
· Spare and replacement parts
· Stat/Rotor modifications and repair
· Engineering studies including re-rates and upgrades
· High speed balancing
· Training onsite or at our factory
· Retrofitting with the latest technology

An example of retrofitting with the latest technology is the new Next Generation High Speed Diode Wheel. The WEG/EM retrofit diode wheel utilizes a proven series-redundant design. The diode modules are self-contained, providing simplified assembly and superior serviceability. A self-contained, forged ring construction is the basis of this robust design. This is a direct replacement for legacy diode wheel designs in existing generators and is suitable for 50 or 60 Hz applications. Other benefits include the elimination of fuses and nuisance fuse pin popping, simplified installation and elimination of tube failures.
