Wilson, Sons UltraTug Offshore, a joint venture between the group Wilson Sons and Magallanes Navegação Brasileira, christened the PSV Petrel on Tuesday, January 31. The vessel, which will operate for Petrobras, was built at Wilson Sons Estaleiros in Guarujá (state of São Paulo) in partnership with WEG and Damen of Holland.
The vessel cost around US$ 25 million and reached a 60% nationalization rate considered high for this kind of ship. With diesel-electric propulsion, less polluting and more powerful, the PSV has the capacity to transport up to 3,000 tons of load.
The package supplied by WEG is made up of the propulsion motors of 1,500 kW each, two motors of 600 kW for the bow thrusters, 4 generators of 1,100 kW coupled to the diesel groups that supply all the vessel and two dry transformers. All are connected to WEG electric switchboards where the energy and alarm management system assures a more secure and optimized operation.
The christening of the vessel was in Rio de Janeiro at Espaço Cultural da Marinha.
