WEG, a global leader in providing solutions for the industry, has reached a significant milestone in the electric mobility market: the company is now the first in Brazil to obtain accreditation from the Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia (Inmetro) for its electric vehicle charging stations.
With the announcement of the conclusion of the certification process for the WEMOB WALL and WEMOB PARKING charging stations, certified by the Product Certificate Networks (PCN), the company stands out for its pioneering and innovative approach in the electric mobility sector.
Carlos Bastos Grillo, WEG Digital & Systems’ Managing Director, celebrated the achievement. “This milestone reaffirms our commitment to quality and innovation in developing safe and efficient solutions for the electric mobility market. It is a technical recognition certified by Inmetro in Brazil for a product developed and manufactured in Brazil, but meeting criteria and standards that also serve other demanding international markets where WEG operates".
According to Inmetro's President, Márcio André Oliveira Brito, the company's voluntary certification will be important for enhancing the competitiveness of Brazilian products in both national and international markets. "Safety and trust are hallmarks of Inmetro. We aim to encourage sustainable industry growth and protect consumers. Additionally, Inmetro is moving towards making certification compulsory due to the significant increase in electric mobility".
Kim Rieffel, PCN's Executive Director for Latin America, stated that this certification is a historic milestone. "The conclusion of this certification process marks a significant moment for electric vehicle charging and mobility in Brazil. The compliance certificates now have the backing of Inmetro's voluntary accreditation, reflecting technical competence and commitment to safety standards".
This achievement represents a significant advancement for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Brazil, demonstrating the country's ongoing progress in adopting international standards for safety and efficiency.
The Inmetro certification was awarded to WEG during an event at the company's headquarters in Jaraguá do Sul, SC, on August 29, 2024. The event was attended by Inmetro President Márcio André Oliveira Brito, PCN's Executive Director for Latin America Kim Rieffel, WEG’s CEO Alberto Kuba, as well as other authorities and representatives from WEG and the certifying bodies.
Certification Process
The certification process involved a series of detailed steps. Auditors conducted rigorous checks on WEG's production systems and customer support in Brazil. Additionally, laboratory tests were carried out to assess crucial aspects of the charging stations, such as electrical characteristics, protection features, user interface, safety, interoperability, and electromagnetic compatibility.
The test results confirmed that WEG's stations fully meet the requirements of the ABNT NBR IEC 61851-1:2021 standard, which addresses conductive charging systems for electric vehicles. The obtained Certificate of Conformity is valid for six years, with annual maintenance assessments as per Inmetro Ordinance No. 200/2021.
Additional Certifications
In addition to Inmetro certification, WEG's stations have additional certifications, including ANATEL, CE (Europe), UKCA (United Kingdom), EV Ready 2.0, CB Scheme (IEC 61851-1), ULM-NOM (Mexico), SEC (Chile), UNIT (Uruguay), and RETIE (Colombia). These certifications ensure that the products meet national and international standards, guaranteeing safety and compatibility in global markets.
