WEG signed an agreement with Alupar, a company specialized in electric power generation and transmission, for the self-production of energy used in WEG's operations in Brazil.
Located in the municipality of Jandaíra, in Rio Grande do Norte, the AW Santa Régia (EAP II) wind farm is part of the Agreste Potiguar Wind Complex and will reach an installed capacity of 37.8 MW and 21.7 MW physical guarantee through operating with nine WEG AGW 147 wind turbines with 4.2 MW rated power.
The agreement provides an annual delivery of about 15 MW average, power that will provide energy to WEG's manufacturing operations in self-production mode by equalization, for a period of 18 years. Today, this total energy amount represents roughly 30% of the consumption of these operations. The beginning of the energy supply is expected to January 2024, with power purchase contracts estimated at R$ 460 million during the contract period.
“We are reinforcing our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our industrial operations and contribute to the energy transition. We believe that this is an important path for companies in their decarbonization journeys”, highlights Daniel Marteleto Godinho, WEG’s Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Director.
The AW Santa Régia wind farm is located in the same wind farm complex as the AW São João, which has six other WEG wind turbines. Both wind farms are under construction and will total 63 MW of installed capacity.
The agreement between the companies still depends on the fulfillment of precedent conditions, including the approval of the Brazilian authorities.
